1. What is FET?
FET stands for Field Effect Transistor. It is a type of transistor that controls the flow of current using an electric field. Unlike bipolar transistors, FETs are voltage-controlled devices, meaning a small voltage at the gate can control a large current flow between the source and drain.
2. What are the types of FET?
The main types of FET are:
- JFET – Junction Field Effect Transistor
- MOSFET – Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor
3. What is JFET?
A JFET (Junction Field Effect Transistor) is a type of FET where the current flows through a semiconductor channel controlled by a reverse-biased pn-junction. It is normally on and conducts unless a voltage is applied to stop it.
4. What is MOSFET?
A MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) is another type of FET that uses an insulating layer of oxide between the gate and the channel. It has very high input impedance and is widely used in digital circuits and power electronics.

A P-Channel JFET is a JFET where the channel is made of p-type material. Holes are the majority carriers. Current flows from source to drain, and the gate is connected to the n-type region.
