What is Electrical Wiring ?

The network of wires, cables, and other components that a building or structure uses to transfer electricity from a power source to different outlets, fixtures, and appliances is known as its electrical wiring. The system of interconnected wires provides the electricity needed for appliances, lights, air conditioning, and other electrical equipment.

A typical wiring system consists of a number of parts, including outlets, circuit breakers, junction boxes, cables, wires, and switches. In order to reduce the possibility of electrical hazards, shocks, or fires, properly installed wiring adheres to particular electrical codes and standards and assures the safe and efficient distribution of electricity throughout a building.

Classification of Electrical Wiring ( Types of Wiring System )

There are various kind of electrical wiring methods but in this note we will discuss about only Casing Capping Wiring and Conduit Wiring Method.

Casing Capping Wiring

The cabling and capping system, which was formerly very popular, is now regarded as outdated due to the conduit and encased wire systems. VIR, PVC, or any other acceptable insulated cable might have been used in this type of wiring.

The cables were routed via the enclosures made of wood. The enclosure is composed of a piece of wood that has lengthwise parallel slots cut out of it to hold VIR wires. In order to segregate opposing polarity, grooves were created. the wood capping, which is also used to cover cables and wires that are fitted and fixed inside the casing.

Advantages

• It is cheapest system.
• It is very strong wiring system.
• Changes can be easily done by anyone.
• There is no risk of electric shock.
• Very safe wiring method.

Disadvantages

• This type of method has a high risk of fire.
• Repairing cost is also high.

Conduit Wiring

There are basically two types of conduit –

Surface Conduit Wiring

Surface conduit wire is a type of electrical wiring in which protective tubes or channels called conduits are mounted on the exterior of walls or ceilings. The conduits are installed visible, offering an enclosure that protects electrical lines rather than being concealed within the structure. This approach makes it easier to access and maintain the electrical wiring system and is frequently employed when it is impractical or undesirable to embed the conduits within the walls or ceilings.

Concealed Conduit Wiring

Concealed conduit wiring is a technique for electrical wiring in which conduits—protective tubes or channels for wires—are tucked away or hidden within a structure’s walls, floors, or ceiling. Using this technique, the conduits carrying the electrical wires are hidden from view when construction is finished by being placed behind the structural components, such as inside wall cavities or plaster or concrete. Because it conceals the wiring and safeguards the electrical system, this style of wiring is favored aesthetically.

Advantages

• It is the most safest wiring system
• Looks beautiful from outside.
• The repairing and maintaining cost are very easy and pocket-friendly.

Disadvantages

• It is very expensive wiring system.
• Very hard to find the defected wire.
