What is Fluidised Bed Combustion or FBC?
Fluidised Bed Combustion is a method of burning solid fuels that suspends the fuel particles in an upward flow of air, resulting in a fluid-like state. This approach improves combustion efficiency and lowers emissions.
Types of FBC
There are two types of FBC –
- BFBC or Bubbling Fluidised Bed Combustion: Operates at a lower air velocity, separating solid and gas phases.
- CFBC or Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion: Higher air velocity keeps particles in continual circulation, resulting in better combustion efficiency.
Advantages of FBC
Here are some merits of this process –
- It has high combustion efficiency.
- By this process, lower amount of pollutant emits.
- This process has flexibility to burn a wide range of fuels.
Applications of FBC
Here are some uses of this process –
- Used in Power Generation systems.
- Used in Waste to Energy plants.
- Used in industrial applications as well.
