What is Luminous Flux ?
Luminous flux measures the total amount of visible light emitted by a light source, typically measured in lumens (lm). It quantifies the brightness of the source.
Luminous Intensity
Luminous intensity is the amount of light emitted in a particular direction, usually measured in candelas (cd). It tells you how bright a light source appears from a specific point.
Lumen
A lumen is a unit of measurement for luminous flux. One lumen is equal to the amount of light emitted by one candela in one steradian (a unit of solid angle).
Illumination or Illuminance
Illuminance (or illumination) measures the amount of light that falls on a given surface area. It’s measured in lux (lx), which is equal to one lumen per square meter (lm/m²).
Lux
Lux is the SI unit of illuminance, representing the amount of light per unit area. It’s used to quantify the brightness or level of lighting on a surface.
Space-Height Ratio
This ratio is used in architectural lighting design and describes the relationship between the height of a space and its lighting requirements. A higher space-height ratio may require more lighting to achieve adequate illumination.
Utilization Factor
Utilization factor takes into account the efficiency of a lighting system. It considers factors like reflectance of surfaces and the design of luminaires to determine how effectively light is distributed and used in a space.
Depreciation Factor
Depreciation factor accounts for the reduction in light output of a lighting system over time due to factors like lamp aging and dirt accumulation on fixtures.
Luminous Efficiency
It measures the efficiency of a light source in converting electrical energy into visible light. It’s typically expressed in lumens per watt (lm/W) and helps assess the energy efficiency of lighting technologies.
