What is Calorific Value?

It is refers to the total amount of heat released during the complete combustion of a unit mass or volume of a fuel.

Types of Calorific Value

Types of Calorific Value:

  1. Higher or Gross Calorific Value (GCV):
The higher or gross calorific value is the total heat generated when a unit mass or volume of the fuel undergoes complete combustion, and the combustion products are cooled to room temperature.
  2. Lower or Net Calorific Value (NCV):
The lower or net calorific value refers to the total amount of heat released when a unit mass or volume of fuel undergoes complete combustion, with the combustion products allowed to escape.

NCV = GCV − Latent Heat of Steam
