Fundamental Concepts of Engineering Mechanics
Here are the list of fundamental concepts of engineering mechanics –
- Space: In engineering mechanics, space is defined as the geometric zone within which objects exist and events occur. It gives a framework for describing body positions, shapes, and sizes.
- Time: Time in engineering mechanics refers to the duration of an event or motion. It aids in evaluating the motion of bodies and their changes over time.
- Mass: Mass is the amount of matters in a body that determines its resistance to movement (inertia). It is an essential feature of physical items.
- Particle: In mechanics, a particle is an idealized object whose size is small in comparison to the distances or dimensions involved in a problem. It has merely mass, no volume.
- Flexible Body: A flexible body transforms in response to outside forces. Unlike rigid bodies, flexible bodies can alter shape or size in response to external loads or tensions.
- Rigid Body: A rigid body is an imagined item that does not deform in the presence of external forces. In other words, despite the application of forces, the distances between all particles within a rigid body remain constant.
