Hydro Power Plant Diagram
Here we have discuss each and every section of the Hydro Power Plant –
- Reservoir: The reservoir retains water, which is later utilized to generate energy. It is usually formed by building a dam over a river.
- Surge Tank: The surge tank is an additional storage area positioned near the power station. It aids in absorbing abrupt variations in water pressure induced by quick changes in water flow or turbine load.
- Penstock: The penstock is a huge pipe or conduit that transports water from the reservoir to the turbine. It is built to handle high pressure and guarantees efficient water delivery to the turbines.
- Turbine Gate: The turbine gate regulates the flow of water into the turbine. The amount of water flowing into the turbine can be adjusted to influence the power output.
- Hydro Turbine: The hydro turbine transfers the kinetic energy of flowing water to mechanical energy. Depending on the water flow and head, various turbines (including Francis, Kaplan, and Pelton) are employed.
- Generator: The generator is connected to the turbine. It transfers the mechanical energy generated by the turbine into electrical energy.
